Surgery is awesome!!!

This is great for my 30th post!
Let me start by saying though that Monday 3-16-09 I got in a wreck. The truck I hit did not even have a scratch on it. My car has deployed air bags and a smashed front end. I have a broken finger. It totally sucks. More painful than I thought it would be actually. Plus my arm is all bruised up. And I got the ticket. Sucks even more. It was a bad monday.

Today however....I got to see 3 surgery's!!!! First I got to see a doctor cut someone's neck open to get a biopsy to see if the patient had thyroid cancer. It was benign and showed she had hashimoto's. ( Basically hypothyroidism) It was really interesting to see though. And I never knew they sewed up an inside layer before that layer you see. Really cool. Then I got to see the same doctor do a hernia repair. Kinda weird. Lots of squishy guts being pulled out. Then the big one! I got to see Dr. R (who just happens to be the doc who's seeing me for my broken finger) do a Total Knee Angioplasty! It was awesome! It first looked like when you cut open a baked potato and then pull it apart. Yeah that's what his knee looked like. Then he took an electric chisel and just started chiseling away the bone. Bone was flying everywhere! It was pretty awesome. He had to grind some of it away and then other times he just took something that looked like pliers and just started pulling at pieces and breaking them off. It was so weird. They came out of the scrub room with these weird hats on. They had fans in them to keep them cool under the jumpsuits they were wearing. It was so cool. And he had this "Navigation System" to help him line everything up and tell him the size of the implant he would need. He had to hammer these long metal rods into his knees to line everything up. That's what sent it to the Navigation System. It was very awesome. Best day this week definitely!
