So I have been to clinicals 7 days now! The first 5 were of course on 1 floor and I did TONS of paperwork. I passed my first meds and gave a SubQ shot which was awesome. But now I'm in minor care. Yesterday was kinda boring, but I did get to give my first IM shot, but today was AWESOME! I got to give another IM shot. I got to see a patient who caught his private area in his zipper, then promptly ripped it out himself and came to see us 4 days later. Yikes. Then I got to hang 2 IV Piggybacks. I got to do an occult blood test from stool (Not so fun actually haha) And then the real fun started! A patient in respiratory distress was being brought in by ambulance to the ER. Now the ER was completely full today and so was the hospital. There were not enough beds in the hospital for all of the patients even coming into the hospital so we had to put a patient in the hall just did get this patient a room so they could work on her. I got to sit and watch them take care of her. Turns out she had a pacemaker that stopped working. Well the awesome team there did wonderfully and she was stabalized. Then I got to put in my first catheter on her! Dude it was awesome. I know that sounds weird. My teacher was in there with to other students and a friend of mine from highschool who is a tech there. I was terrified! But it was awesome. And now I know a little better what to do next time. I didn't do so bad. I think I am really going to love being a nurse! I was thinking about being a surgery nurse but now I'm considering ER. You have something new everyday and you'll never be bored! But we will see! I haven't tried everything yet!
