Back home...Again....

So we made it back home on Friday the 19th. We have electricity now. My house is, once again, a big mess. I have tried to do some studying but I have absolutely no motivation. I keep checking my schools website and they just keep posting that they don't know when the school will be back open. Such a big help. So I guess i will keep waiting. In the meantime, I am trying to work a lot, get rest, and clean up my house, so maybe I will have 1 less thing to stress about when i do go back to school.

As for Ike we did have a window leak in our apartment and we now have molded curtains and carpet. It also got water all over a bunch of my husbands pants he had laying on the floor. I think I got to them in time to wash them and get them cleaned up. They smelled soooo bad. It was awful.

I worked another 16 hour shift overnight at the hospital. I had my first Code Blue. I had to call it. The patient decided he did not want his trach tube in him anymore. So he pulled it out and basically suffocated himself. Me and the RN found him and a team came with the crash cart and they were able to revive him. It was a miracle. I really didn't think we had made it in time. I was so happy to hear that he had made it through. I had some MAJOR adrenaline pumping. It was crazy. That's all I can say. It was just amazing watching the people that came in with the crash cart. They were so calm and collective. They went in and got the job done. The Nurse called his doctor, the Administrative Supervisor came up and called the family. It just worked so steadily. I hope I am able to work like that as an RN under those conditions someday.

So now I am just waiting to hear about school. I just hope they don't make it harder on us...

Evacuation again....

i went back to school after Hurricane Gustov and it only affected 1 check-off. We just had to make it up on the 11th after our first major nursing test in our 1500 class. No big deal. So life went on. I had my first Dosage Calculation test. I think I did pretty good on that. Don't know the grades yet. I had my first "real" check-off. We had to do a Head-to-Toe Assessment. Well I forgot the stupid side lung sounds! How could I!? Well I had one of the most strict teachers so of course I received an unsatisfactory. It's funny because I could hear the other teachers helping the other students saying "Now what were we supposed to look for in that area of the body??(pointing to the body part)". If all of the teachers are not going to be consistent then whats the point??? Out of 8 people that checked off with my teacher only 2 passed. And everyone else had no problems with the other teachers....does that make sense??? Anyway...Off that rant now....

So we were back for exactly 10 days then....Hurricane Ike hits!!!! So we were supposed to have our 1500 test on the 11th and we evacuated on the 11th. I just decided to go to my parents house a city over. So right now I am sitting in NO air condition. The house is hooked up to a generator and we are keeping the fridge and freezer cool. It's miserable. Our sewer has to be hooked up also so there is limited amounts of flushing...yes disgusting...we have to take cold showers where we have to get wet, turn off the water, soap up, turn the water back on and rinse off really quick. Yeah it's fun. I don't feel like doing anything...Especially studying...I was supposed to have my first Pharmacology test on Wednesday. I don't think that will happen. Looks like no power for up to 4 weeks. And the place where my school is flooded so there is no telling how long it will be for that damage to be fixed. Yipee. That's just what I need. My school to be harder because it will be even more crammed together. I should have just gone to one of those school where I could get my second bachelor's degrees in nursing in 18 months. it would have been just as difficult and i wouldn't be around here to be evacuating!!!!

Well that's all for now. I guess I will write more when we actually have electricity and I have a school to go back to!

Back in town....

We evacuated to Austin for Hurricane Gustav. It did not even come close to us. So I completely destroyed my house by taking down pics and taking everything off the walls for nothing. Yeah kinda sucks. So we got home last night and my house is a mess and today I had to go to school all day and then go to work. I just got home 30 min. ago and I'm exhausted.

Pharmacology was overwhelming. She has stopped going by the book and she is just jumping around. I can't write that fast. Dosage Calculations is getting a little easier but I still have a lot to figure out. Our first test in next Wednesday. I hope I do good!!! Then next Thursday we have our first basic nursing class. I'm starting to get even more stressed. Gustav definitely did not help.

Now if we can just avoid Ike....
